Wandering Among the Wildflowers
Hi Wildflower Families,
I hope you are having a wonderful week and are looking forward to the weekend ahead!
Next week, we’ll be celebrating Halloween on October 29 with our costume parade at approximately 8:50 a.m., followed by Heather’s class Halloween Frolic. Also, a reminder that Monday is photo retake day for any students who missed picture day or would like another chance at a photo they love.
One of the great things about Wildflower is having our elementary and middle school students learning together. This creates opportunities for leadership and mentorship that are difficult to replicate in other school settings. These opportunities were on full display at our October assembly on Thursday!
This year, our middle school students have taken on the responsibility of organizing and facilitating our assemblies. They connect with each class to find out what students would like to share, put together the schedule, and then write the script and host the assembly. This month, Slade and Tencsa did a fantastic job as our hosts, and all the students who participated helped make it a wonderful event.
We began with students from Barb’s class sharing what they have been learning about light and light waves. They explained some of the properties of light before switching off the lights to demonstrate the shadow structures they had created. Next, Emily’s class introduced a signpost they had constructed and read descriptive paragraphs capturing the atmosphere and feel of some of the places featured on it. Building on this theme of place, Charlie’s class shared descriptive writing about the sights and sounds of Moroccan marketplaces.
We then shifted our attention to the human body! If you’re interested in how our hands work, ask the students in Heather’s class. They shared some fascinating information about the structure and function of the hand.
We wrapped up the assembly with some music. Our Seedlings class came up to sing a song about pumpkins, which was absolutely adorable. To close the show, our custodian, Nikko, joined us with his guitar and treated us to some jazz. It was wonderful to see this musical side of Nikko, and the students were thoroughly impressed by his incredible guitar licks!
It was a lovely morning that showcased the creativity, learning, and talents of our students and staff. It was also a great reminder of how special it is to be part of a school community where students of different ages have opportunities to learn from and celebrate one another.
