Well, in the immortal words of Barry Manilow, “Looks like we made it…”, and not only did we make it, but we made it in fine form. I had the privilege to wander through the various learning fairs and seeing them put together and I was absolutely blown away by what has gone on here the past four months.

As we leave November behind us and move into December toward the winter break and the half-way point in the school year, it's a great time to reflect on the past three months and how school communities and SD8 as a whole are supporting each child in their learning journey.

In November at Wildflower Nelson we dove deep into Indigenous Veterans Day and Métis Awareness month. We started our month learning about legendary Canadian Indigenous Athlete, Tom Longboat and his connection to Indigenous Veterans Day.

SD8 students from kindergarten to grade 12 as well as families and staff are one month into the school year and settling into the rhythm of a new season, new classrooms, new and returning classmates and so much energy and enthusiasm as thousands of learning journeys are underway.

Welcome back! We are so happy to be back at school and to have the halls filled with the joyful noise of learning. September is such a beautiful month here in the Kootenays and for those of us who work in schools it is made all that more special by the return to school, and the return to community.

A warm welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. 

On September 3, about 4,700 children will leave home in the morning excited to see their friends, full of anticipation and maybe even some apprehension about beginning a new year, a new classroom, or a new school.

The school year is coming to a close in a few weeks and hundreds of high school graduates across our district will reach out their hands to accept their Certificate of Graduation or B.C. “Dogwood diploma.”

Dear Wildflower Nelson Families,

It is amazing how time flies. We are rapidly nearing the end of the school year and I am changing from the ‘new’ principal of Wildflower Nelson, into just the principal of Wildflower Nelson. I have moved from counting my time here in weeks, to counting it in months, and soon that will become years.
